I have decided that my plan should be spamm you about the real Star Trek until you forget that blasphemy JJ Abrams came up with. That should work. Well, it won't (people are so easily distracted by the prettiness of Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine -who is, actually, very ugly) but at least I'll have fun revisiting.

I was going to picspam "The Undiscovered Country" because it's my favourite old-skool Trek movie (& because the Remastered Edition looks so pretty; not intrusive like I thought, like the idiotic Star Wars new editions, just very pretty and with a very clean colour balance) but who am I kidding, of course I have to start with The Next Generation.

This post is dedicated to hamsterfactor, because without her I doubt I'd be the Trekkie I am now. That sounded like an accusation, but I'm actually very grateful. What would I do without the crew of the Enterprise-D?

also, we've just watched an couple of episodes of Conan where there was flashbacks and there was mini!Shinichi and mini!Ran and mini!Kaitou and there was shaved!Shinichi's dad and Kaitou's dad (on whom I have a crush) and Shinichi's parents and Ran's being all neighbour-ly and awesome and there was YOUNG!KOGORO still working with the police (be still my heart) and his wife fixing his tie before leaving for work and OH THE PAIN IN MY HEART. Conan is made of everything that's good and awesome in this world. *sigh*

plus, can I have the Bones finale NAO?

and, I want to see Angels & Demons so badly it HURTS. we were browsing the official companion at a bookstore today and there were pics of TOM HANKS BEING HOT AND ALL ROBERT LANGDON-ISH and explaining things and being ridiculous and BEING SEXY and I just want my bad movie right now. oh my, this is like the best series ever. why are the episodes so short?

this one might be the crackiest yet - the sweet story of true love and indulging your wife's weird sexual perversion. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

and my OTP had like two moments of interaction, so yay me.

i hope this develops into a whole new GENRE of anime and we see the brith of many series on the theme of "old people with glasses are hot".



ps. now we're off to see the Star Trek movie. pray for us. i know that i will loathe it no matter what because of WTF UHURA NO NO NO and the HOW DARE THEY? factor. but mainly the retarded idea of giving Uhura personality and the other thing... ugh.

Once upon a time, when I had this vain dream of becoming a film director and despite admiring many, many other filmmakers, deep down, what I wanted to be or rather who I wanted to be was Hal Hartley. I still remember meeting him like one of those few truly movie-like moments that I've had in real life (in short, there was heavy rain and i needed a place to wait it over and i stepped into the first café within walking distance and Hal Hartley and wife were sitting on a table; needless to say i embarrassed myself beyond redemption).

Surviving Desire was the only film of his I couldn't see in its day (its day being the all-inclusive retrospective that my hometown film festival held & that pretty much changed my life). I finally snagged a copy on the net last night and I got up early and watched it. It's now probably my favourite work of his. It'a about love and infatuation (infatuation... is such a wonderful word) and books and the love for books and philosophy. and chance. and all the things that usually make up a Hal Hartley movie.

It is also kind of a musical. But not really. But yes really.

Cinema (& life in general) doesn't get any better than early!Hal Hartley. Also, Martin Donovan is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL human beings that have ever existed.

so okay guys, here's the deal: Law & Order: UK was pretty amazing last week. actually it was very good. not the coppers part cause that continues to be boring, though Bradley Walsh's character is growing on me. but the trial part was quite brilliant. also, James and Alesha are so doing. I'm enjoying how pathetic Matt is around Alesha when she is clearly very much in love with her boss. and her boss with her. TAKE THAT, STUPID JAMIE BAMBER!

also VERY IMPORTANT: I am beginning to think that my Freema is actually a good actress. I don't think this was evident before this ep. I feel that all the hopes I had for her are being realized slowly. like, she was very VERY good in this ep.

Also! Hugh Dancy was the cover of the Evening Standard Magazine. The interview was so-so cause Hugh has the tendency to appear as a cunt in interviews -when he is actually a very sweet guy, as we were able to check in person. The interviewer didn't seem to like him too much (same thing with James McAvoy the other week, uhm; btw, we are going to a Masterclass with Mr.McAvoy, lol). But it's quite interesting. Any Given Sunday is kind of lame. The story is quite shit. But at least it's directed by Oliver Stone, so there's some prettiness some times. And it has Jamie Foxx who is AN INCREDIBLE GOOD ACTOR AND FUCK WHO DOESN'T THINK SO. What this movie needs is MOAR AARON, definitely. Also, being Oliver Stone well, himself, he does a lot of camera movement all the time so getting a focused cap of this movie was a challenge.

shameless pimpage: since we are on the subject of Aaron... I wrote The Dark Knight fic, you guys. sorry if i repeat myself.

I remember going to the cinema to see this despite my utter loathe of Julia Roberts because a) it was a Soderbergh movie and at that tender age he was my total hero and; b) Aaron was in it. It is a pretty good movie, given the subject and the lead actress (kinda like A Mighty Heart in that sense, only less awesome). It's not its director's finest hour but it's a bloody entertaining movie.

The Pledge is Sean Penn's 2001 haunting police drama (or slow thriller if you will) revolving around the murder of a little girl and the retiring officer that investigates it. As all of Penn's movies, I absolutely adore it. It's mature and low key and moody. It's also the only movie where I can honestly say Jack Nicholson is doing a good job. The cast is spectacular (Patricia Clarkson, Helen Mirren, Vannessa Redgrave) but of course it's Aaron Eckhart's energetic yet subtle portrayal of an average police officer that catches my eye. Another of those roles where he looks as if he wasn't acting at all. Bless his kickass acting skills. And credit to Sean Penn for giving him such a meaty role.

So basically I've seen The Dark Knight twice in theatres in 24 hours and today I bought FIVE dvds of films starring Aaron Eckhart and yes, basically Harvey Dent and Harvey/Rachel have taken over my brain now.

Sorry the caps are so shitty. There's no way for me to find this movie on dvd, damnit. And Aaron looks so young and short-haired. His voice sounds weirdly not-him.
